Tunesday Tuesday: Week 2- Your Mood Song

We all need a little music in our lives. A good song can answer a question, soothe the soul and provide an escape. It can recall a memory in the most vivid detail and evoke the most intense feelings.

“Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common.” -Sarah Dessen

We created Tunesday Tuesday to do just that, bring people together through music.

Every Monday night at 9pm the link up will go live at The Patchwork Paisley, Drinking the Whole Bottle, Momma Candy, and MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter. We will designate a theme, and hope that you will share a song that embodies said theme for you. Post the video for the song, an audio clip, the lyrics- however you want to do it. Then, write a little something about why this song captures the week's theme and link up your post here with us!

Visit your hosts after 9pm (EST) on Monday nights
to find out what the theme is for the week!

Rules?
It would be awesome if you would follow your lovely hostesses (links below,) but other than that- let's have fun with this! Know a fellow music lover who should get in on the party? Let them know about it! Want to share your groove with the world? Tweet it should you feel so inclined. Want to grab a button? Go for it. It's really pretty and you'll find it down below.

Next week's theme will be...
Your Favorite (or least fave) Holiday Song!

I had a really hard time with this one and it's only week 2 of Tunesday Tuesday. I started out unsure of how I wanted to approach this one: generally, as in what kind of music am I in the mood for lately or specific, as in what song sums up the ever changing range of emotions I am experiencing at any given moment. The second option seems pretty impossible, but when I took a second to actually reflect on the overall mood that encompasses my life this second, last second and 300 seconds from now "Under Pressure" pretty much sums it up.

It was an easy choice, but I avoided it for a while because there has to be another song that also speaks to my musical taste a little better (nothing against Queen or Bowie, both are pretty badass, but I don't love the song, just the message.) BUT on the way to school this morning I decided to make the concerted effort to decide on my song for this week. I do my best thinking on my 45 minute commute, so I put Pandora on the 80s station. If I'm being true to the genre I am in the mood for lately, then that's where I had to start. I'm always down for some Benetar, Heart, Journey and the like, but lately the sound of a synthesizer has done wonders for my mood and that's what we're talking about here after all, isn't it? I've been in desperate need of a little light and fluffy lately, because all areas of life have been pretty heavy. I find myself really struggling. I'm trying to stay afloat at home making hopeless efforts to clean and organize a house with too much crap and not enough places to put it, making feeble attempts to fix the neverending list of things that need to be updated, patched, repainted and replaced on a house built in the 20s with little know how and less money to throw at it, not to mention the stuff that's supposed to be fun ie: decorating the house for Christmas (inside is done, outside- TBD.) Oh yeah! Christmas! Guess how many Christmas presents I have purchased so far?

Go ahead, guess.

Z-E-R-O.
John's birthday is Wednesday too.

Then there's work. Things are crazy there right now. Without getting in to too much detail, we recently found ourselves under a whole new regime and to say the transition has been a bumpy one would be an understatement. I didn't realize what I was returning to when I walked back in those doors almost a month ago, but morale is low and stress is high. With endless amount of paperwork to do to prove over and over again that we are worthy of our "cushy" jobs (test scores tell all right? Who actually needs to get to know our kids, they're just a bunch of "standard" kids right? No?) we're burying ourselves one assessment at a time. I am just barely staying afloat and sadly the areas that have been suffering are the things that I enjoy: time to bond with my family, catch up with friends, and my blog.

SO, when I found myself stuck in traffic, late to work again, chasing time again while considering my song choice, what should play but those few telltale notes that could only meant two things: I was about to stop, collaborate and listen OR Under Pressure was in fact the perfect song to sum up my mood.

  1. I totally get your choice after reading your explanation...I guess I get so absorbed in the Holiday I kinda push the pressure aside. It can be a very hectic and overwhelming time of the year though especially with Birthday and more added into the mix (trust me I know I have 2 Kiddies whose bdays embrace Thanksgiving plus 1 in January and February)... I'm loving this Hop more and more each week...it's so challenging to pick just 1 song!

  2. Love your story to go along with this. Who isn't under pressure right now, right? But it sounds like you're under some serious pressure that goes beyond the typical Christmas pressure. Here's to hoping you continue rocking out to those synthesizers until you no longer need them, and that the Christmas cheer chases away some of your testing blues!

  7. Great song. Sorry about the new regime. I'm with you on the pressure of it all. I'm so behind but you already know that. Thanks for the great linkup lady, hopefully next week I won't be so bitchy :)
    XOXO
